Si Quiero Streaming, a partner of Frontier IB, collaborated with the European Space Agency (ESA) to live-stream the highly anticipated solar eclipse from the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory in Spain. An event of this magnitude deserved the best possible connectivity solution and the ability to deliver a flawless broadcast.
An event of this magnitude deserved the best possible connectivity solution and the ability to deliver a flawless broadcast.
Live streaming an astronomical event requires a connection capable of maintaining a stable video stream throughout the entire production. Unlike a conventional broadcast, an eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime event: there’s no second chance if the connection fails at the crucial moment. Furthermore, it’s important to note that viewers aren’t willing to miss something like this, so our partner was very clear that there was no room for error.
For Si Quiero Streaming, the challenge was to support a demanding, uninterrupted, and completely seamless live production from a remote location.
For the broadcast, Si Quiero Streaming deployed a Peplink MAX Orbit 4 to integrate four Starlink connections: two Starlink Gen 3 terminals and two Starlink Mini terminals.
The connections were combined using SpeedFusion Bandwidth Bonding, which aggregates multiple WAN links at packet level and manages them as a single logical connection.
This enabled the setup to:
By combining different satellite links within a single Peplink architecture, the setup could make better use of the available connectivity while reducing dependence on any individual connection.
Testing at the Javalambre Astrophysical Observatory achieved approximately 200 Mbps of upload capacity, providing the performance required for the production.
The team completed nine hours of continuous streaming during testing, including the integration of live images received from León and Palencia, with zero critical connectivity incidents affecting the production.
For Si Quiero Streaming this meant being able to approach a one-time live event with the connectivity tested and validated beforehand, without connectivity becoming a critical point of failure.
“In a broadcast of this scale, connectivity becomes part of the critical production infrastructure. For the eclipse, we deployed a redundant architecture combining fibre, multiple Starlink links, and Peplink MAX Orbit 4 to manage backup connectivity.
The collaboration of Frontier IB played a key role, providing the necessary hardware and, above all, know-how, technical advice, and support during preparation and configuration of the solution.
Peplink’s main strengths were resilience and control, allowing us to manage multiple links and simultaneous streams with greater security. The experience was so positive that Si Quiero Streaming decided to permanently incorporate the MAX Orbit 4 into its infrastructure as a solution for productions that require professional connectivity and redundancy.
