By integrating bonded 5G with Peplink technology, Czech TV has reduced its dependency on traditional satellite links, while maintaining high-quality, uninterrupted broadcasts from anywhere in the country.
Czech TV sought to upgrade its fleets of Outside Broadcast (OB) vehicles with a more cost-efficient alternative to traditional DSNG (Digital Satellite News Gathering). The goal was a hybrid approach, retaining satellite for critical use-cases while leveraging 5G connectivity wherever possible. The solution had to offer redundant 5G connections, compact hardware suitable for mobile use and seamless compatibility with existing broadcast infrastructure.
Smart Informatics implemented a Peplink-based architecture tailored to Czech TV’s needs. Each OB vehicle was equipped with the HD4 MBX 5G, a high-performance quad-modem router. This device eliminates the need for multiple routers and provides strong, reliable 5G connectivity. Paired with Mobility Antennas selected for space and mounting conditions, it ensured optimal signal reception.
At the broadcast center, Smart Informatics deployed two SDX Pro routers in High Availability mode. These devices create secure SpeedFusion tunnels between OB vehicles and control rooms, enabling bonded communication and real-time coordination. The entire network is monitored and managed centrally via Peplink’s InControl2 platform.
With this Smart Informatics solution, Czech TV now broadcasts with greater flexibility, reduced costs and stronger redundancy. The Peplink infrastructure enables broadcast-grade video and audio streaming via bonded 5G, drastically reducing reliance on satellite uplinks. Real-time management via InControl2 supports distributed production workflows, even in remote or high-density urban areas.
